He obtained his degree in physics from the JATE University in Szeged in 1978. He wrote his doctoral thesis on the development of terawatt lasers. Since 1994, he has been teaching in the Department of Optical and Quantum Electronics at JATE, and became a corresponding member of the Hungarian Academy of Sciences in 2004. His research activities are focused on the development of lasers, ultra-fast spectroscopy, and the industrial and medical application of optical methods. Together with his colleagues, he developed high-sensitivity gas analysers that can be used for industrial and environmental measurement. He has been teaching at the University of Sciences in Szeged for twenty years. He has been awarded the ELFT Schmied Rezső Prize, the Physical Award of the Hungarian Academy of Sciences, and the Gábor Dénes Prize.
