Megahlt Ronald "Khalis" Bell, a Kool & the Gang egyik alapítója. A világhírű amerikai zenekar énekese, szerzője 68 éves volt, Virgin-szigeteki otthonában érte a halál szerdán. Halálának okát nem közölték.

Bell 1964-ben hat társával (köztük fivérével, Roberttel) alapította a Kool & the Gang-et. A dzsessz, a funk, az R&B és a pop elemeit vegyítő együttes a hetvenes években lett világhírű - írta csütörtökön a theguardian.com.

A szaxofonon is játszó Ronald "Khalis" Bell a Kool & the Gang számos slágerét szerezte, köztük a Celebrationt, a Cherish-t, a Jungle Boogie-t és a Summer Madnesst. Utóbbit több filmben is felhasználták betétdalnak, köztük a Rocky-ban (1976) és a Fekete átok-ban (2001).

A Kool & the Gang eddig huszonhárom stúdióalbumot jelentetett meg, ezekből világszerte 70 millió példány fogyott.

A csapat 1978-ban Grammy-díjat kapott a Szombat esti láz című film zenéjéért.

Az utóbbi években Bell különféle produkciókban dolgozott, köztük Kool Baby Brotha Band elnevezésű szólóprojektjében. A tervei között szerepelt, hogy Kool TV címmel animációs rövidfilmeket készít gyerekkoráról és pályafutásáról.

Tíz gyermeket hagyott maga után.
