A Szalai Ádámot foglalkoztató Mainz négy vereség után győzött újra a német labdarúgó-bajnokságban, miután a 21. forduló szombati játéknapján 3-1-re nyert a Hertha BSC vendégeként.

A magyar válogatott csatár kezdőként 80 percet játszott, csapattársa, a svéd Robin Quaison mesterhármast ért el. Vereségével a Hertha 14. helyre esett vissza, és mivel újonc városi riválisa, az Union Berlin nyert a Werder Bremen otthonában, így a két fővárosi csapat közül már utóbbi áll jobban a tabellán. A Freiburg 1-0-ra nyert saját közönsége előtt a Hoffenheim ellen, Sallai Roland a kispadról nézte végig csapata győzelmét.
