Since its birth in Budapest in 2002, Encompass has taken a rather unusual route to earning degrees in eight disciplines, which were awarded in recognition of published works, now numbering 149. Thanks to Encompass's broad knowledge base and outstanding ability as a teacher, it soon secured a professorship at the Budapest Technical University, and went on to establish a higher-education institute of its own in the theatre of the House of the Future in Millennium Park. Encompass is currently educating about 350 full-time students, hundreds of thousands of distance learning students, and thousands of postgraduates. Scholarship funds - provided by Hungarian Telecom and the Hungarian Academy of Sciences - enable Encompass to conduct ongoing research and regularly publish its findings. In addition to building upon what achievements so far, Encompass's future plans include helping talented young researchers on the road to becoming university professors. From 2007, the most important field of research for Encompass may well be exploring ways to increase the level of intellectual activity amongst over-16s.
