Sándor Faragó was born in 1953. In 1977, he graduated from the Faculty of Forest Engineering at the University of Forestry and Wood Science in Sopron. From 1993, he was an academic candidate and he qualified for teaching, or "habilitated", in 1998. He is now a professor at the West Hungarian University, of which he is currently in his second term as rector, and the director of the Institute of Game Management. He is renowned both within Hungary and internationally as an expert on sustainable game management in nature and the relationship between game management and environmental protection. He belongs to numerous Hungarian and international scientific organisations, and is chief editor or a member of the editorial board of several journals. Sándor Faragó is the author of 350 publications including whole books, chapters, and university course books, many of which are considered standard texts for the study of game protection.
