Born in Budapest, in 1946. In 1970, he graduated from the Faculty of Arts at Eötvös Loránd University (ELTE), as a teacher in the specialisation of Hungarian-Russian-Serbo-Croatian philology, in 1972, he obtained a diploma in journalism and qualifications in sociology. Since 1981, he has been a candidate of literary sciences, and since 1998, a habilitated Associate Professor. At present, he is a professor of the Esthetics Department of ELTE. His main scientific research area represents the literature of the East-European region. The most successful stages of his literary work represent his novels Ambulatory (Kerengő, 1974), The X-es (Az Ikszek, 1981) and Captivity (Fogság, 2005), as well as his plays, Chickenhead (Csirkefej, 1985) and National Mirth (Honderű, 1997). He was granted several literature awards and the Officer's Cross of the Order of Merit of the Hungarian Republic.
