Born in 1941, he graduated from the University of Veterinary Science in Budapest in 1964. He received his Ph.D. in veterinary sciences in 1994 and was elected a corresponding member of the Hungarian Academy of Sciences (HAS) in 2001. Dr. Varga is a faculty member at the Department of Microbiology and Infectious Diseases of the Faculty of Veterinary Science. His main fields of education and research are veterinary microbiology and infectious diseases of farm animals. He is the author of over a hundred academic papers, two textbooks and a number of technical books. Dr. Varga is an active member of various Hungarian and international scientific bodies involved in the study of infectious diseases as well as the editorial boards of several Hungarian and international technical periodicals. He is also chair of the Veterinary Science Committee of HAS and the National Council for Animal Health.
