Doctor of medicine, professor of pathology, consulting member of the Hungarian Academy of Sciences, and head of the 2nd Department of Pathology of the Semmelweis University. She was director of the National Institute of Pathology for five years, president of the Advisory Board of Oncology and Radiotherapy, and currently of the Advisory Board of Pathology. She is president-elect of the Hungarian Division of the International Academy of Pathology. She had several fellowships to Paris, France, and spent more than five years in the National Cancer Research Institute in the United States as visiting professor. Her main area of interest is virus-cell interaction, with special regard to the hepatitis-B and -C viruses, and the induced liver cancer. She has gained both national and international acclaim, with over 200 scientific publications, numerous lectures at international forums, and several books and book chapters. Apart from research, she is deeply involved in diagnostic medical work and teaching.
