He obtained his degree in physics from the Faculty of Science of the Eötvös Lóránd University, Budapest. In 1988 he obtained a post-graduate degree. In 1998 he became Doctor of, and in 2001 Corresponding Member of the Hungarian Academy of Sciences (MTA). Apart from two years spent at the National Synchrotron Light Source at Brookhaven National Laboratory in the US, he has been working at the Solid-State Physics and Optics Research Laboratory of MTA since 1979. Here he leads the X-ray Diffraction Group. He has been the leading researcher in the introduction of various new measurement techniques, such as the spread of nuclear resonance of synchrotron radiation and x-ray holography. He has been awarded several prizes for his work: 1981 and 1984 Institutional Youth Award (KFKI - Central Physics Research Institute), 1989 - Youth Award of the Academy (MTA), 1994 - The Gyula Zoltán Award (ELFT), 1996 - Award of the Academy (MTA) and 1999 - The Széchenyi Award (Republic of Hungary). He has been published in 105 scientific bulletins and quoted more than 1700 times indicating his international recognition.
