Orientalist, classical scholar

From 1970 he worked in the Study of Antiquity Research Group of the Hungarian Academy of Sciences (MTA) and from 1988, he was group leader. Since 1991 he has worked on the organisation of the arts faculty of the Pázmány Péter Catholic University and was Dean of the faculty from 1992-1999. In 1995 he became a corresponding member and from 2005 a full member of the MTA. He is president of the Study of Antiquity Committee of MTA, editor of the Acta Antiqua magazine and member of a number of international and domestic scientific organisations.
