Tivadar Tulassay was born in 1949. He obtained a degree in general medicine in Budapest in 1974. In 1978 he specialised in paediatrics, in 1992 in neonatology, in 1998 in hypertonology. In 1985 he received a scholarship to the University of Heidelberg. He has been working at the Paediatric Clinic No.1 of the Semmelweis University since 1983 and from 1993 he has been director of the institution.. His field of research is the study of the regulation of fluid and electrolyte balance, the kidney functioning of premature babies, the hormones involved in fluid and electrolyte regulation, the study of natriuretic peptides of the atrium and other vasoactive hormones and the risk factors of vascular pathology. He has been a corresponding member of the Hungarian Academy of Sciences since 2000, member of several domestic and international professional organisations and of the board of editors of a number of journals. He has obtained several awards during his career.
