His specialist field of research is the experimental study of the electric and magnetic phenomena of solid-state bodies. He has established a laboratory unique in Hungary and leading in international research at Budapest University of Technology. With his talented research group of students, he is studying special structure metals, semiconductors and superconductors. They have been conducting experiments under low temperatures nearing absolute zero degree and in extremely large magnetic fields. The phenomena studied most recently include the modification of the characteristics of matter by the use of high pressure such as the transformation of an insulator into metal or superconductor as a result of several tens of thousands of atmospheric pressure. The latest research direction of the laboratory is the study of the quantum phenomena of nanostructures (e.g. the measurement of the electrical conduction of a single metal atom, or defining electron structure with the help of the quantum-mechanical tunnelling effect).
