Born in 1940 in Szeged, he graduated in mathematics at József Attila University. His thesis was entitled "Composing Music on Computer". Kodály Zoltán himself heard the Kodály-style songs composed on the computer and although he said, "They're good, but mine are better", he invited Miklós Havass into the Folk Music Research Group of the Hungarian Academy of Sciences (MTA). Form 1965 he worked on the development of software for Hungarian made computers. In 1972 he joined Számalk (its legal predecessor) where he still works, now as the president and is one of the owners of the company group. In 1994 his attention turned to the study of the issues of the information society and was initiator and organiser of the national strategies associated with the information society. He established a school system involving an English language primary school, vocational secondary school and three colleges He is a member and leader of a number of domestic and international organisations. He has received several important professional awards during his career. He lives in Budapest with his wife and has three children and three grandchildren.
