Furka, Arpad

Chemist

Árpád Furka was born in 1931 in Kristyor, Romania. He concluded his university studies at the University of Szeged where he first trained to be a qualified chemistry and physics secondary school teacher, later obtaining a degree in chemistry. He has been a university professor at Eötvös Lóránd University ( ELTE) since 1972, his main field of research is combinatorial chemistry, the foundations of which he had himself laid at the beginning of the 1980's. While further developing this area, he worked for the American company Advanced ChemTech as a consultant between 1995 and 1999. Since 2001 he has been honorary chairman of the European Society of Combinatorial Sciences
